NGA TOUR secures event exemption into BMW Charity Pro-Am

Myrtle Beach, S.C.– (February 26, 2013) - The National Golf Association Professional Golf Tour announced today that the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am has granted an unrestricted exemption to the NGA TOUR for the 2013 season.

Since the start of the 2010 season, the NGA TOUR has secured over 20 Web.com and PGA TOUR event exemptions for its members, the most of any developmental tour in the country.

“I’ve said it before, golf is a game of opportunities,” said Robin L. Waters, NGA TOUR president. “With each event exemption secured, we are able to give our members a chance to develop and prepare for the highest levels of the game, which is the ultimate goal of the NGA TOUR. We are excited to have one of our members play in the BMW Charity Pro-Am and grateful for the opportunity.”

The BMW Charity Pro-Am event exemption will be awarded to the 2013 NGA TOUR Pro Series member with the highest total cumulative earnings from the 2nd and 3rd series of the 2013 NGA TOUR Pro Series. Those four events include the March 11-17 Kandy Waters Memorial Classic at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club, the March 18-24 Milton Martin Honda Classic at Chattahoochee Golf Course, the April 1-7 NeSmith Chevrolet Classic at Sapelo Hammock Golf Club, and the April 8-14 Brunswick-Heritage Oaks Classic at Heritage Oaks Golf Club.

The 2013 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will be played May 16-19 at Thornblade Club, Greenville Country Club’s Chanticleer course and The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am is the only tournament on the Web.com Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Web.com Tour professionals in a four-day four-ball competition over three courses. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 16 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club.

The Professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $117,000 from the total purse of $650,000. Amateurs and celebrities compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.

The partnership between the NGA TOUR and the BMW Charity Pro-Am appears to be the perfect match, considering in the 21 years of the event, NGA TOUR alumni have hoisted the winner’s trophy 15 times.

Former NGA TOUR players Russell Beiersdorf (1992), Scott Gump (1994), David Toms (1995), Michael Christie (1996), Chris Smith (1997), Shane Bertsch (2000 & 2005), Tripp Isenhour (2003), Ryuji Imada (2004), Ken Duke (2006), Nick Flanagan (2007 & 2012), David Mathis (2008), Justin Hicks (2010) and Garth Mulroy (2011) have all earned victories in the prestigious event.

The NGA Pro Golf Tour is the No. 3 Men’s Professional Golf Tour in the United States after the PGA and Web.com Tours and is the No. 1 recommended developmental tour by more PGA and Web.com Tour players.

The NGA has helped hundreds of professionals acquire their PGA TOUR, Euro, Web.com, and Champions Tour cards. In fact, NGA alumni have won an incredible Fifteen (15) “Major” Championships.

NGA alumni include: 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson; 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley; 2010 PGA TOUR Player of the Year and 2003 US Open Champion Jim Furyk; 2009 British Open Champion Stewart Cink; 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover; 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson; 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel; 2003 British Open Champion Ben Curtis; two-time U.S. Open Champion Lee Janzen; British Open and PGA Champion John Daly; British Open Champion Tom Lehman; PGA Champion David Toms; 2003 Tour Championship Winner Chad Campbell; 2010 NGA Player of the Year Michael Thompson; 2012 PGA TOUR winners Mark Wilson, George McNeill, Ted Potter Jr., Scott Stallings and Scott Piercy.

The NGA Pro Golf Tour, established in 1988, predates the Web.com Tour as the longest running developmental tour in golf. In 2012, the NGA TOUR became the “Official Partner of the 2012 Reno-Tahoe Open” and secured one PGA TOUR and six Web.com Tour event exemptions for its members, the most in developmental golf.
