Final Round Update: 2011 NGA member Ted Potter Jr. finishes T10 -
Pacific Palisades, Calif.– February 18, 2013 – Former NGA TOUR player John Merrick survived a two-hole playoff in the PGA TOUR’s Northern Trust Open on Sunday to claim his first PGA TOUR victory in his home state.
Merrick, a UCLA alumnus from Long Beach, carded a 2-under 69 at Riviera Country Club on Sunday to join Charlie Beljan in a playoff. After both golfers recorded pars on the first hole of the playoff, Merrick, who played on the NGA TOUR in 2004, ousted Beljan on the second playoff hole with a par.
The win is the third victory of the season for NGA TOUR alums on the PGA TOUR.
Longtime NGA TOUR member Josh Teater picked up his second top-10 finish of the season on the PGA TOUR. Teater, who made more than 60 NGA TOUR starts, closed with a 2-under 69 to finish in a tie for sixth at 9-under par.
Ted Potter Jr., a two-time NGA TOUR player of the Year, also carded a 2-under 69 on Sunday to move into a tie for 10th at 6-under par. The T10 effort was the best finish of the season for Potter, who has one PGA TOUR victory, and moved him into 30th in the FedExCup standings.
Former NGA TOUR member Jim Furyk (70) finished in a tie for 13th at 5-under par, while alums John Rollins (69) and Keegan Bradley (70) finished T16 at 4-under par.
Current NGA TOUR member Blayne Barber posted a 3-over 73 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 42nd in his PGA TOUR debut.

Third Round Update: Four NGA TOUR alums T13 or better –
Pacific Palisades, Calif.– February 16, 2013 – Former NGA TOUR player John Merrick shot a 1-under 70 in the third round of the PGA TOUR’s Northern Trust Open on Saturday to move into a tie for second at 9-under par.
Merrick, who played on the NGA TOUR in 2004, will start the final round three shots behind leader Bill Hass, who fired a 7-under 64 at Riviera Country Club in the third round on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Teater, a veteran of over 60 NGA TOUR events, put himself in good position to record another top 10 on the PGA TOUR. Teater shot a 3-under 68 in the third round to move into a tie for seventh at 7-under par.
Ted Potter Jr., a 2011 NGA TOUR member, didn’t move up the leaderboard in the third round, but the two-time NGA Player of the Year didn’t move down, either. Potter shot an even-par 71 to remain tied for 13th with 1992 NGA TOUR member Jim Furyk. Potter and Furyk are 4-under par after three rounds.
Keegan Bradley, a 2009 NGA TOUR member/winner, posted a 2-under 69 in the third round to move into a tie for 17th with fellow NGA TOUR winner Stewart Cink. Bradley and Cink are 3-under par.
Current NGA TOUR member Blayne Barber posted a 1-over 72 on Saturday and will start the final round at 2-under par and tied for 22nd with NGAer John Rollins, who carded a 6-over 77 on Saturday.

NGA vets Potter Jr., Teater lurking in Northern Trust
Pacific Palisades, Calif. – February 16, 2013 – Former NGA TOUR players John Merrick and John Rollins will start weekend play at the PGA TOUR’s Northern Trust Open in a tie for third, just one shot off the lead.
Merrick, who played on the NGA TOUR in 2004, posted six birdies and one bogey at Riviera Country Club in the second round en route to a 5-under 66, while Rollins, who played on the NGA TOUR in 1998, recorded five birdies, one bogey and one eagle on Saturday to finish with a 6-under 65. The NGA duo will start the third round at 8-under par and one stroke behind co-leaders Sang-Moon Bae and Fredrick Jacobson.
After opening the event with an even-par 71, John Mallinger, a 2003-04 NGA TOUR competitor, shot his way into contention with a 5-under 66 in the third round. Mallinger went out in 36, but the Long Beach State alum closed with a 30 to move from T48 into a tie for ninth at 5-under par.
Ted Potter Jr.,a two-time NGA TOUR Player of the Year, also moved up the leaderboard nicely on Friday, carding a 4-under 67 to join former NGA TOUR member Josh Teater (68) in a tie for 13th at 4-under par.
Current NGA TOUR member Blayne Barber might have to delay his first start of the season on the NGA TOUR if he continues his hot hand. Barber, who won five times on the NGA TOUR in 2012, posted a 1-under 70 in the second round and is tied for 21st at 3-under par in his PGA TOUR debut.
Former NGA TOUR members Ben Curtis and Jim Furyk carded rounds of 1-over 72 on Friday and slipped into a tie for 26th at 2-under par. NGAers Brandt Jobe (75), Keegan Bradley (70), George McNeill (70) and Chris Kirk (68) will start the weekend tied for 37th at 1-under par.

First Round Update: Former NGA winner Brandt Jobe in third –
Pacific Palisades, Calif.– February 15, 2013 – Last year at this time, NGA TOUR member Robert Streb was competing in the Members Only Shootout. Today, Streb will start the second round of the PGA TOUR’s Northern Trust Open inside the top 10.
After Monday qualifying for the event, Streb, who spent two seasons on the NGA TOUR before earning his PGA TOUR card, started the event in style with an eagle on the first hole. The former Kansas State great added three birdies and two bogeys the rest of the round to finish with a 3-under 68.
Streb finished the day tied for seventh with former NGA TOUR players Ben Curtis, John Merrick and Jim Furyk, who also recorded 3-under 68s at Riviera Country Club in the first round of play.
Former NGA TOUR winner Brandt Jobe was the highest NGA TOUR alum on the leaderboard when play was suspended due to darkness with a few players left on the course. Jobe, a UCLA alumnus, posted six birdies and one bogey to finish the round in solo third with a 5-under 66, two shots behind leader Matt Kuchar.
Current NGA TOUR member Blayne Barber, who also Monday qualified for the event, was one of the few golfers still on the course when play was halted, but his 2-under score through 15 holes was good enough for a share of 18th with NGA alum John Rollins, who posted a 2-under 69.

2012 NGA member Robert Streb also earns spot in field -
Myrtle Beach, S.C.– February 13, 2013 – NGA TOUR rookie Blayne Barber was supposed to make his 2013 debut in the Killearn CC Classic next week in Tallahassee, Fla. However, if the Auburn alumnus continues his hot hand, he stands a good chance of bypassing the NGA TOUR and moving to the PGA TOUR.
After graduating from Auburn in 2012, Barber made some noise late last season on the NGA TOUR, winning four events in his first nine starts on tour. Barber, of Lake City, Fla., continued to shine in this week’s Monday qualifier for the Northern Trust Open, shooting a 7-under 65 at Industry Hills Golf Club - Eisenhower Course to take medalist honors and claiming one of four qualifying spots in the star-studded field.
While this will be Barber’s first start on the PGA TOUR, the former Tiger does have some history at Riviera, where he closed his college career by finishing tied for seventh in the 2012 NCAA Championship. In addition to MQ-ing into the Northern Trust Open, Barber was also granted an exemption into the Puerto Rico Open in March.
Robert Streb, a 2012 NGA TOUR member, was also able to advance out of the Monday qualifier to earn a spot in the field. Streb, a PGA TOUR rookie, posted a 6-under 66 to finish second out of 112 golfers. Streb has made the cut in two of four starts this season. His best finish of the season is a tie for 16th at the Humana Challenge.
Through the first seven events of the PGA TOUR season, NGA TOUR alums have won twice, earned two runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes. Former NGA TOUR winners Keegan Bradley and Bubba Watson stand the best chance of upping those stats, according to this week’s Power Rankings.
Bradley, a 2009 NGA TOUR member, nearly took the Northern Trust Open title last season, but he lost in a three-way playoff. Last year at Riviera, Bradley led the field in all-around ranking and one-putt percentage. Bradley is ranked No. 9 in the PGATOUR.com’s Power Rankings for the Northern Trust Open.
Watson, a former NGA TOUR winner, will be making his third start of the season on the PGA TOUR, but the long hitter should fare well at Riviera. Watson has three top-20 finishes at the Pacific Palisades, Calif., layout and led the field in driving during last year’s event. Watson has a T4 and solo 15th finish in his first two starts of the year and carries the No. 10 ranking into the Northern Trust Open.
Fellow NGA TOUR winner Zach Johnson also earned a spot in the Power Rankings this week. The former NGA Player of the Year has made seven of eight cuts in the Northern Trust Open and carries the No. 14 ranking into this week’s event. Johnson finished T17 last season at Riviera.
While they’re not listed in the Power Rankings, former NGA TOUR players Chris Kirk and Ted Potter Jr. will carry some momentum into the Northern Trust Open.
Kirk, a 2009 NGA TOUR competitor, picked up a season-best second-place finish last week in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and has three top-25 finishes in four PGA TOUR starts this season.
Potter Jr., a 2011 NGA TOUR member and two-time POY, also earned his best finish of the season at Pebble Beach, coming home T16. Potter held a share of the 36-hole lead at Pebble Beach and has a pair of top-25 finishes in four starts on the PGA TOUR this season.
