Former NGA/Hooters Tour winner finishes solo second-
Former NGA/Hooters Tour winner David Toms drained a clutch birdie putt on the final hole of THE PLAYERS Championship to force a playoff with K.J. Choi on Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately for Toms, a 1989 and 1990 NGA/Hooters Tour member, his 13th win on the PGA Tour was not to be. Toms made a bogey on the treacherous No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass, while Choi made par to win the unofficial fifth major.
Former NGA/Hooters Tour Player of the Year
Zach Johnson turned in the second-best round of the day. Johnson, a four-time NGA/Hooters Tour winner, carded a 6-under 66 on Sunday to move from T44 to T12. Johnson’s round was only bested by Sergio Garcia’s 65.
Past winner Brian Gay and former member Spencer Levin also finished in a tie for 12th at 8-under par.
Kevin Streelman, who has one NGA/Hooters Tour win, also made a nice run up the leaderboard in the final round. Streelman shot a 5-under 67 to finish T19, 25 spots better than he started the day. NGA/Hooters Tour alums and PGA Major winners Stewart Cink and Sean O’Hair joined Streelman at T19.
Chad Campbell, the all-time NGA/Hooters Tour wins leader, narrowly missed picking up his fourth top-25 finish of the season. Campbell finished T26.
In 2011, NGA/Hooters Tour alumni have combined to win seven times on the PGA Tour after posting 12 victories in the 2010.

Friday Update: Win No. 8 in Sight-
Former NGA/Hooters Tour winner David Toms shot a 4-under 68 in the second round of THE PLAYERS Championship on Friday at TPC Sawgrass to take the lead in the fifth major.
Toms, a 1989-1990 NGA/Hooters Tour member, is searching for this 13th win on the PGA Tour and his first since 2006. So far in 2011, NGA/Hooters Tour alums have won seven times.
Lucas Glover, who played on the NGA/Hooters Tour in 2002, shot a 1-under 71 in the second round and dropped to T3. The former Clemson stalwart is coming off a win last week in the Wells Fargo Championship.
Alum Kevin Streelman is T17 after his 69 in the second round. Former player Brian Gay is T23, while former winner Kris Blanks and former member Spencer Levin are T28.
Bubba Watson, a former NGA/Hooters Tour winner, shot himself back into the tournament with a 6-under 66 in the second round. Watson already has two wins this season on the PGA Tour and is leading the FedExCup standings.
Alums Stewart Cink and Sean O’Hair joined Watson at T34.
Recent graduate Keegan Bradley shot a 69 in the second round to make the cut in his first start in THE PLAYERS Championship.

Thursday Updates: Glover 2nd; Toms 3rd after Round 1-
After winning last week in the Wells Fargo Championship, former NGA/Hooters Tour player Lucas Glover opened with a 7-under 65 in the first round of THE PLAYERS Championship on Thursday afternoon.
Glover, who played on the NGA/Hooters Tour in 2002 after successful career at Clemson, is one shot behind leader Nick Watney going into the second round.
Alum David Toms also got off to a good start at the TPC Sawgrass course. Toms, a former winner on the NGA/Hooters Tour, shot a 6-under 66 in the first round and is tied for third.
NGA/Hooters Tour veteran Kris Blanks finished the day with a 3-under 69 and tied for 13th. Blanks, a three-time NGA/Hooters Tour winner, had six birdies and three bogeys on the day.
Mark Wilson, also a three-time winner on the NGA/Hooters Tour, is part of a foursome of NGA/Hooters Tour alums tied for 25th after the first round. Wilson, a two-time PGA Tour winner this season, shot a 2-under 70 on Thursday. Alums Stewart Cink, Garrett Willis and Ryan Palmer also opened with 70s.

Recent Graduates Keegan Bradley, Gary Woodland to play in 5th Major-
Myrtle Beach, S.C. - May 11, 2011 - With less than half the season completed, NGA/Hooters Tour alumni have combined to win seven times on the PGA Tour this season and are well on pace to eclipse the 15 wins amassed by alums last season on golf’s top tour. w caption.jpg)
And there should be plenty of chances this week for alums to capture win No. 8, considering nearly 50 are in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for THE PLAYERS Championship.
Former NGA/Hooters Tour winners Bubba Watson and Mark Wilson, the only two-time winners this season on the PGA Tour, are currently No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, in the FedExCup standings, while Luke Donald is second in the standings.
Watson, who won the Michelob Ultra Classic in 2004, picked up victories at the Farmers Insurance Classic and the Zurich Open, while Wilson, a three-time NGA/Hooters Tour winner, took top honors at the Sony Open and the Phoenix Open. The duo, along with Donald, will be paired together during the first two rounds of THE PLAYERS Championship this week.
Over the years, THE PLAYERS Championship has become known as the fifth major due to the quality of the field. This year’s field is no different. Players competing this week have combined to capture 50 PGA Tour Majors, with seven of those won by NGA/Hooters Tour alums.
Former NGA/Hooters Tour players and PGA Major winners Jim Furyk, David Toms, Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, Shaun Micheel, Stewart Cink and Ben Curtis are all part of the all-star field playing at TPC Sawgrass.
Recent NGA/Hooters Tour graduates Keegan Bradley and Gary Woodland will be making their first starts in the heralded event.
Two years removed from the NGA/Hooters Tour, Bradley, a former NGA winner and Rookie of the Year runner-up, moved to the PGA Tour this year after a stellar rookie season on the Nationwide Tour in 2010, when he finished 14th on the money list.
Bradley, whose Hall of Fame aunt, Pat Bradley, once caddied for him on the NGA/Hooters Tour, is continuing his trend of successful debuts on the PGA Tour this year. Through 14 events, the former St. John’s golfer has made eight cuts, notched two top-10 finishes and earned nearly $600,000 in his rookie campaign.
As impressive as Bradley’s start has been, it pales to compare with the torrid pace set by Woodland, who sits sixth in the FedExCup standings. In 11 starts this year, Woodland, a 2008 NGA/Hooters Tour member, has picked up a win, a second-place finish, four top-10s and six top-25s.
After leading the Kansas University golf team in scoring in 2007, Woodland joined the NGA/Hooters Tour the following year and posted pair of T25 finishes during his rookie year.
Former NGA/Hooters Tour players Lee Janzen and Craig Perks are past winners of THE PLAYERS Championship.

At this year’s PGA Tour Qualifying School, 46% of the players that earned full exempt status on the PGA Tour (including 2010 Hooters Tour Player of the Year Michael Thompson) and 52% of the players that earned status on the Nationwide Tour have spent time on the NGA/Hooters Professional Golf Tour. In 2011, 23 former NGA/Hooters Tour players will be advancing to the PGA Tour.
