Rookies Teater And Adams Among Four To Finish Top 10
Pebble Beach, CA (February 14, 2009)…It took six tournaments but former Hooters Tour players Josh Teater and Blake Adams are beginning to show signs of why they finished inside the Top 25 on the Nationwide Tour in 2009 and were promoted to the PGA Tour. Both 2010 rookies collected their first top ten finishes this past week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am. (Josh Teater pictured left after his 2009 win on the Nationwide Tour, courtesy of Dennis/PGA TOUR)Teater, a member of the Hooters Tour from 2003-2008, has tried to make the most of his four starts on the PGA Tour this season. The former Morehead State golfer had made two of three cuts entering the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro AM managing only a T-54 at the Farmers Insurance Open as his best finish but was able to put together four solid under par rounds this week to finish T-5 and move to 41st on the money list with $249,222 and 51st on the FEDEX Cup list with 125 points.
Teater, a rookie on the 2010 PGA Tour based on his Top 25 finish on the 2009 Nationwide Tour, started the week with rounds of 70-67 but began his run at a top 10 finish late in Saturday’s third round. He birdied his final three holes Saturday to shoot a four-under par 68 and then started out with four birdies in seven holes in Sunday’s final round to move to thirteen-under before a disappointing double bogey at the eighth hole stopped his momentum. He was only able to muster one birdie over his final eleven holes to finish at twelve-under par 274 but it was good enough for a T-5 finish. Teater was joined at twelve-under by former player J.P. Hayes.
Not to be out done by Teater, former player Tom Gillis also posted his first top 10 of the season on Sunday thanks in part to four straight rounds in the 60’s for the week. Gillis, a 2009 graduate of the Nationwide Tour, carded rounds of 69-68-69-69 to finish at eleven-under par 275. The top 10 was Gillis’ first of the season and moved the long time touring pro to 36th on the money list with $269,321 in earnings and 30th on the FEDEX Cup list with 175 points.
Also finishing top 10 for the first time this season was Hooters alum Blake Adams. Adams 2010 season started out promising when he finished T-25 at the Sony Open in first ever PGA Tour start but a missed cut and T-63 had slowed the momentum of his first start. A week off from golf did miracles for the Eatonton, Georgia native as he posted his lowest score of the year in the first round with a 65 (5-under par). He followed that with a disappointing two-over 74 in the second round but was able to move up the leader board with closing rounds of 66-71 for a four day total of ten-under par 276. With the top ten finish, Adams moves to 61st on money list with $183,999 and 65th on the FEDEX Cup list with 109 points.
While these players finished inside the top 10 for the week at Pebble Beach, a handful of other alumni also had successful weeks. The list includes Tom Pernice, Jr (T-21), Matt Every (T-27), Jeff Maggert (T-27), Jim Furyk (T-35), Kevin Streelman (T-35), Will MacKenzie (T-35), Sean O’Hair (T-35), Michael Letzig (T-50), Kris Blanks (T-56), Garrett Willis (T-56), Chris Wilson (T-56), Brett Quigley (T-61), Jay Williamson (T-61), Martin Flores (T-64), John Mallinger (69th), Justin Bolli (T-70), Parker McLachlin (T-70), Sam Saunders (T-70), Ryan Palmer (T-70) and Mark Wilson (T-70).
