The NGA Hooters Onion Creek Classic

Austin, TX (August 2, 2009)… Texan native and former Lamar University golfer Shawn Stefani (Baytown, TX) finished with a final round seven under par 63 to notch his first career NGA Hooters Tour win at The Onion Creek Classic (Pictured L to R: Pete League (Tournament Chairperson, champion Shawn Stefani, Hooters Tour Director Jeff Harlow and Michael Moore (Superintendent).
 
Stefani carded rounds of 64-67-64-63 to post a twenty-two under par total of 258, giving the former Cardinal a three stroke victory over Martin Flores (Mansfield, TX).  Third round leader Kelly Grunewald (Grand Prairie, TX) whose final round 69 included a hole-in-one on the par 3, 11th hole came up four strokes shy of the win.
 
“It feels great to get a win out here (Hooters Tour), especially in Texas, this is the tour you want to win on because you know you’re beating the best” commented the Texan on his first NGA Hooters Tour win. “It really prepares you for the next level”.    
 
James Vargas (Miami, FL) and Justin Smith (Franklin, PA) each posted seventeen under par 263 totals and will share a tie for 4th position while Jeff Corr (Longwood, FL) and Michael Thompson (Birmingham, AL) finished in a tie for 6thafter posting sixteen under par 264 totals.
 
“The leaderboard was pretty crowded with great players that all deserved to win and knowing Ted (Potter) is near the lead you know you’ve got to play well. I’m just happy I could come out on top,” said Stefani on the final round
 
A group of four golfers finished at fifteen under par 265 and will share a tie for eight. This group includes Ted Potter (Silver Springs, FL), Roberto Castro (Alpharetta, GA), Ben Fox (Sherman Oaks, CA) and Ned Michaels (Brentwood, TN) whose final round matched the course record at nine under par 61, moving from a tie for 35th to his current tie for 8th.
 
Other final round movers included Russell Knox (Jacksonville Beach, FL) who also matched the course record 61 moving from a tie for 47th to a tie for fourteenth while Andrew Georgiou (Columbus, GA) posted an eight under par 62 moving from a tie for 35th to a tie for twelth.
 
Dawie Van der Walt (Beaumont) headed up the rest of the Texans in the field after finishing at fourteen under par 266 while Jerrett Hamilton (Richardson) and Anthony Broussard (Beaumont) each posted thirteen under par 267 totals. Local Amateur golfer Scott Roudebush finished at two under par 278 for the tournament.
 
Stefani takes home $33,566 for his win at The NGA Hooters Onion Creek Classic Presented by The Dominion Golf Group while Flores earned $16,671 for his runner-up effort.
 
Next week the NGA Hooters Tour travels to Pearland, TX (Houston) for the Texas Honing Open contested over the Golfcrest Country Club.
