Chesterfield, VA (June 18, 2006)… James Nitties (Newcastle, Australia) fired a four-under par 68 in the final round of the Base Camp Realty Chesdin Landing Open presented by Pearson Dealerships and Michelob Ultra over the 6767 yard, par 72 Lake Chesdin Club to garner his first ever Hooters Tour win.“This week I started off two-over par through three holes on Thursday and I just thought I have been playing eight straight weeks, lets just get it back to a top 20 with no expectations to be were I was yesterday,” said the twenty-three year old Nitties.
“Saturday’s third round was by far my most comfortable round all week being able to play with my mates Andrew (Tschudin) and Aron (Price). It’s not too often you get paired with two countrymen in a round when you are in contention.”
Nitties fired rounds of 71-68-65-68 for a four day total of sixteen-under par 272 and a two shot victory over John Kimbell (Lafayette, GA) and countrymen Aron Price (Sidney, Australia). Kimbell and Price finished the event at fourteen-under par 274.
“This is a golf course you know that if you shoot four or five under each day you will have a chance to be there at the end, not like the ones that guys are going to fire eight and nine each day and beat you by two on Sunday,” said Nitties after his round.
Jack Croyle (Thomasville, GA), Adam Babb (Arlington, TX) and first and second round leader Kyle McCarthy (Gulfport, FL) finished in a three way tie for fourth, three behind Nitties at thirteen-under par 285.
Cameron Yancey (Blackstone) led the Virginia contingent in The Base CampRealty Chesdin Landing Open after firing a four day total of four-under par 283. Richard Hanna (Stanardsville) finished six behind Yancey for the week with a one-over par 289 total. Bryan Jackson (Palmyra) and Lake Chesdin Head Pro Tim White (Chesterfield) round out the Virginia contention finishing at seven-over par 295 and six-over par 294 respectively.
Nitties collects a Hooters Tour best $23,723 for his first win, while Kimbell and Price take home $9,786 for the second place finishes.
The NGA Hooters Tour heads south to Greenville, North Carolina and Brook Valley CC for the Touchstone Energy Open next week. The Touchstone Energy Open is the second $200,000 event of the season.
