Midway, PA (May 28, 2006)…Gareth Maybin (Ballyclare, Northern Ireland) fired a 3-under par 69 Sunday in the final round of The Quicksilver Classic presented by Ameriprise Financial over the 7083 yard, par 72 Quicksilver Golf Club to win his second career Hooters Tour title.“I have had my chances all year long especially in the first four or five events to get it done, but I faltered coming down the stretch,” said the former South Alabama golfer. “I worked on my mental game this week and I was able to get it done.”
“I would like to dedicate this win to my good friend Marty back home who suffered a recent loss in his life,” said an emotional Maybin after the win. “I would also like to think my ten sponsors from the 5 corners and also my sponsor Team Ireland for giving me the backing this year.”
The second year pro carded rounds of 69-66-69-69 for a four day total of seventeen-under par 273 and a three stroke victory over Grover Justice (Lexington, KY). Justice fired a final round three-under par 69 for a four day total of twelve-under par 276.
Tee McCabe (MarcoIsland, FL) finished all alone in third place after closing with a final round four-under par 68, a four day total of ten-under par 278.
Justin Smith (Franklin) headed up the Pennsylvania contingent in The Quicksilver Classic after firing a four day total of eight-under par 280. Smith finished in fifth place all by himself and collected $5,985 for the week. Pittsburgh’s Kevin Shields ended the tournament in ninth place at six-under par 282.. Other Pennsylvania players include Gibsonia’s Mike Larkin (+2, 290), McKeesports’s Jonathon Pepe (+10, 298), Pittsburgh’s Eric Bertrand (+13, 301), Butler’s Jon Pratkansis (+13, 301) and Upper St. Clair’s Bobby MacWhinie (+22, 310).
Maybin collects $21,592 for his second career win on the Hooters Tour, while Justice takes home $10,708 for his second place finish.
“Winning this week will give me the confidence to hopefully get through US Open Sectionals in two weeks,” said Maybin.
The NGA Hooters Tour takes a week off before swinging back into action June 5-11 in Statesville, North Carolina for The Statesville Classic presented by ABC Investments & Management and The Comfort & Sleep Inns of Statesville.
