North Myrtle Beach, SC…For the first time ever, The NGA/Hooters Professional Golf Tour announces it will run twenty (20) events in 2008 in and around Charlotte, NC, as well as Columbia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The events will be run in addition to the Hooters regular Tour, which runs 18 events from March through September.
“We’ve been talking about running events here in the Carolinas for a few years now,” said Hooters Tour President Robin L. Waters. “With our main tour now stronger than ever we felt like the time was right to provide another credible and competitive place to play in an area with hundreds of great golf courses and even more aspiring professional golfers.”
The Hooters Carolina Series will be patterned along the same lines as the highly successful Bridgestone Central Florida Winter Series which features 132 player fields, 54-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 40 and ties while paying back 85% of members entry fees.
The Hooters Carolina Series schedule will feature 20 events beginning in April and running into October (Final schedule to be released February 1, 2008).
The NGA/Hooters Tour is the 3rd largest men’s 72-hole professional golf tour in the country behind the PGA and Nationwide Tours, and boasts alumni like 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson, 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel, 2003 British Open champion Ben Curtis, 2003 US Open champion Jim Furyk, British Open and PGA champion John Daly, two-time US Open winner Lee Janzen, British Open champion Tom Lehman, as well as PGA champion David Toms, Tour Championship winner Chad Campbell and back to back Reno Tahoe Open winner Vaughn Taylor to name just a few. All told, the NGA/Hooters Tour alumni have an incredible nine Majors to their credit. The NGA Hooters Tour has helped more than 100 golf professionals acquire their PGA, Nationwide and Champion’s Tour card. In fact, 42% of the players that earned their 2008 PGA Tour cards, and 47% of the players that earned full exempt status on the Nationwide Tour started their careers on the NGA Hooters Tour.
